and I could feel or I don’t.
I can taste all of the bitterness
when you lie where you won’t.

With the same soft smile
and the shaking of your head
you feel inclined to disagree
with everything they say you’ve ever said.

Cause you promised yourself
in the world as it freezes
the death of desire,
the cure to all of the known diseases.

It’s gentle and it’s brutal
But it’s ultimately pointless.
You’d tear it all up
But you’re too fucking feckless

and you know
that it would never let you go.

So you’re overturning thoughts,
turning over tables.
Trying to describe the life you live
through two thousand year old fables.

And it makes no sense when they do,
it paints no odds to try.
Packaged in a little box
That you would live in till you die.

And you promised yourself
in the world as it turns
you’d rip off the tags
to the things that you’d never return.

The complex allegory
that was hidden in your lines
probably looks a lot like mine.

And so we know
that it would never let you go.
